This image is composed of 74 layers from a 66-year-old hymnal that once belonged to Kyugoro, my great great uncle who emigrated to the US at the turn of century. When I tracked down his grandchildren and met them in 2023, they graciously gave it to me. Flipping through its pages, I found 74 hymns each marked with a red circle beside the hymn number. I imagine these were hymns he used to sing with his wife at church — ones that must have been special to them. I layered them all into a single image. A short film is also shown below. This is part of KYUGORO, a book project.
